What is Coax to HDMI?
Coax to HDMI is a technology that enables you to use the existing wiring in your house to distribute 1080p high definition video throughout your house. All new and existing homes contain coax or coaxial wiring for distributing cable or satellite TV signals throughout the house.
As high definition has become more and more mainstream, it has become desirable to get HD (high definition) to more and more TV’s. Given the difficulty of running wiring through an existing home, manufacturers have developed ways of distributing these signals over the existing wiring in houses. One of these methods is by converting the HDMI signal into a format that can be carried by coaxial wiring. Thus the advent of coax to HDMI technologies. The HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) signal requires a significant amount of bandwidth. It carries both the HD video and digital audio signal from the source component (Bluray player, HD Cable box) to the display device or digital surround receiver. The coaxial cable used for coax to HDMI converters is more than capable of carrying an HDMI signal with bandwidth to spare.
As a real life example let’s say you have a blu-ray player in your living room that you would like to be able to watch in your master bedroom. Using a coax to HDMI device, you would be able to send this signal over the wiring already inside the walls of your house, enabling you to watch movies in the master bedroom TV.
